15 kilogram silver bar
Silver has been so valuable in various societies that it was often attached to dowries. When a woman got married, her parents would frequently include silver in the dowry paid to the groom. This would often be in the form of household items, such as serving trays, mirrors, jewellery or other valuables. Occasionally, it would be in the form of silver coins. Because this ore can be used to make so many different items, it has been used throughout history for a variety of purposes. There is often a higher tax on investment silver because this metal is needed for industrial use. Because it has historically retained its value so well, many people choose silver investments to offset the risks associated with stocks and mutual funds. This is often done by adding silver to an investment portfolio, but it can also be done by keeping silver in a home safe or bank depository.
The 15 kilogram silver bar is one of the largest sizes of silver bullion available. Each of these bars will feature inscriptions indicating their weight, the name of the mint that produced the bar, and the fineness indication. Fineness is most often expressed as .999. This number means that the bar contains 99.9% pure silver. Because different mints mark their bars according to their own specifications, some will feature more branding than others. Most silver bars are minted into standardised dimensions, but special editions may vary in both design and dimensions. The Perth Mint, for example, includes repeated kangaroo motifs on the reverse side of its bars.
