2.5 gram gold bar
While gold has been found all over the world, half of all the gold that has been mined has its origins in South Africa. However, the true origins of the planet's gold are deep in outer space. It forms when neutron stars collide, and there is a relatively limited supply that cannot be renewed. Because of this, it is a precious metal that has high value to both collectors and investors. Only 174,100 tonnes had ever been mined as of 2011. Forty percent of that gold is used by investors on both large scales and small ones. Because these bars are relatively small, investors often keep them in safes in their homes. Some, however, opt to store them in bank depositories where they can be insured up to a certain dollar value.
Gold bars can be purchased in varying weights. The 2.5 gram gold bars come from various refineries and are minted in many different countries. These are standardised so that they each come in the same dimensions. A 2.5 gram gold bar is 13 mm in length, 12 mm in width, and .6 mm in thickness. While different mints follow different practices for labelling these bars, each one has markings indicating the material, the weight, the refiner, and a certificate of authenticity. Some mints inscribe the reverse more elaborately than others, and the bullion bars themselves will often feature the mint's logo on their reverse sides. Bars will always either come with these markings or an assayer verifying its authenticity.
